STATE BOWLING '08

This last weekend we took 7 athletes to the State Bowling competition in Beaverton/Hillsboro and we had a wonderful time. The athletes did a great job and we brought home some medals! Cheyenne Phipps received GOLD, Lindsay Stephens received SILVER, Kerry Tomisser received SILVER, Rachelle McClaughry received BRONZE, Jamie McClaughry received 4th place, Allen McDaniel received 6th place and Tasha Stuck received 7th place. GOOD JOB TO EVERYONE!!! After they were done bowling, we went for dinner and the dance! I think everyone had fun at the dance.
At the opening ceremonies, Wal Mart presented a check for $50,000 to Special Olympics of Oregon!!! We received word that this money was going to be distributed to the different local programs and that our program here in Baker will be receiving over $1000 from the donation!!! We are very excited! Thank you Wal Mart and SOOR!!

BOWL-A-THON

I am happy to inform everyone that the athletes did a great job in gathering sponsors for the Bowl-A-Thon. We raised over $2300!!!! Everyone had a great time bowling and some very good food provided by the coaches.

Waiting to see what place she was going to receive at Regional Bowling!!

WELCOME

Welcome to you all!! This is our first attempt at blogging so bare with us as we are in the learning process. We will be keeping you all informed on the activities of the athletes and our fundraising efforts.

Our next fundraiser will be our Bowl-a-thon on Nov. 18th at the Elkhorn Lanes from 6pm-9pm. Athletes are busy getting sponsors for this event now. They will be at Albertson's and Safeway on Saturday the 15th sitting at a table asking for donations towards this event.

We just finished our first attempt at a bake sale and it was a GREAT success!!! Thank you to all who donated baked goods to our great cause. We will be doing another bazaar on December 13th at the St. Stephens Episcopal Church from 11am - 4pm.

Calling all of you shoppers who shop at Albertson's!!!! We are now a member of the Community Partnership Program and every time you swipe your Preferred Savings Card we will receive a percentage of what you spend. All you have to do is set up your card so that it is connected to Baker City Special Olympics. If you are internet saavy then just go to www.albertsons.com and enter our zip code, then click on the "In the community" link at the bottom of the page. Then, click on the "Community Partnership" link on the right hand side of the page. Then in the middle of the page there is a "Shopper" login link, click on that. It will then ask you for your card number and your phone number and then click on "login". Next, click on the "Find a Partner" link on the right side. It then asks you for the name, city and state...type in "special olympics, baker city, oregon" and click "Find Partners". Our organization will come up and just mark the box and click on "Add selected Partners". Then click on the "My account" link on the right to see that Special Olympics is listed on your card. Make sure that it says 100% to the organization. That's all there is to it!!! Real simple. If you do not have a computer or are not comfortable doing it that way we do have a paper form that we can put your card number and phone number on and send it in to the program and they will set your card up.

We have 8 bowlers that are headed to State competition on Nov. 21-23 in Beaverton/Hillsboro!! Good Luck Athletes!!!! I will let everyone know how they do.

That is all of the news that I have for now. Please check back on a regular basis for all of our activities and upcoming events.
